The management of load carriers (e.g. pallets, containers) is a process away from the core business and causes personnel costs, capital commitment, transports and disputes with customers. Available software solutions are only suitable for sections of load carriers and require costly implementation projects. Furthermore, every new user must be trained. By combining knowledge from various consulting and development projects with deep technology knowledge (cloud, app, AI, IoT) we can offer the only solution that is suitable for all types of load carriers and can be used immediately without a project. We do not stop at the generation and visualization of data but automate many processes that are manual today, such as the reconciliation of balances or the reclaiming of own load carriers. Our vision is to build a cross-industry ecosystem, the operating system, for load carriers. This also helps the environment by reducing paper and transport and using existing load carriers more efficiently.

Logistikbude, a logistics start-up from the heart of the Ruhr region, was spun out of the Fraunhofer IML in Dortmund in 2021 and automates the management of reusable assets such as pallets, boxes and racks. With its user-friendly software-as-a-service solution, the company offers real-time transparency on stock levels, requirements and circulation times. This fully automates manual processes such as the booking of transactions and coordination with swap partners. Shippers, logistics service providers and retailers further benefit from accelerated turnaround times for their assets as well as significantly reduced shrinkage and repurchase rates.

Problems Solved

The use of these objects is currently costing companies a lot of money due to a lack of digitalization: Personnel costs: documentation, booking and coordination with partners tie up 1 in 50 of a company's logistics employees. Repurchasing due to shrinkage: Due to shrinkage, companies have to repurchase around 10% of reusable items every year. Capital commitment: Existing returnable items lead to capital commitment costs amounting to 15% of the value of the company's own pool or stock.
